Fackler and Thormeier Qualify for State!

The boys and girls cross country teams competed at Regionals on Saturday at Tiffin.

The boys team finished one spot out of the team state qualifiers while placing in 5th with 112 points, 7 points behind 4th place Celina.  Xander Fackler led the way with an outstanding performance, claiming Regional Runner-Up for the second year in a row while running the best time ever recorded by a Bryan athlete at Regionals.  His time of 15:52.4 was only 1/10 of a second behind Regional Champion Ty Rosengarten from Ottawa-Glandorf.  Rosengarten won with a time of 15:52.3.  Junior Braydon Buchanan’s outstanding season came to a close while placing 21st, missing top 16 by 5 spots.  Freshmen Elijah Cummins and Malaki Neilson placed 33rd and 37th.  Tony Foust rounded out the scoring 5 for the Golden Bears with a personal best time of 18:19 while placing 54th.  Nye Bradbee and Spencer Woodward also competed for the Golden Bears.  Six of seven varsity runners will return for the boys next year.

The girls team finished in 7th place.  They were led by Kate Thormeier’s Regional Runner-Up performance.  Kate finished 7 seconds behind the Regional champion from Port Clinton.  This was the best individual girls performance in school history.  Nicolette Stickney closed out her season, finishing in 20th and just missing individual stat qualification.  Arella Alyanakian placed 49th, Eden Alyanakian placed 66th, Kelby Knight placed 68th, and Kassi McDade placed 82nd.  There were no girls on this year’s ladies team.

Congratulations on a great season to both boys and girls teams!  This was a great step in the right direction from past years and I look forward to seeing us put in the work over this next year to get to the next level!
