The Bryan Lady Bears traveled to Port Clinton on Friday for a dual match, and then turned around and participated in an eight-team tournament at Norwalk on Saturday to kick-off their season.
Bryan prevailed over the ladies from Pt. Clinton on Friday 3-2 as Mya Parker won her match at third singles that included a momentum-shifting 12-10 tie-break in the first set, and Madison Klinepeter and Moselle Huard won a 3-set tie-break thriller to bring home the victory for Bryan.
“Mya came through for us today” commented Bryan coach Mitchell Owens. “She was coming off a week of the flu and just gutted it out for the team. And I couldn’t be prouder of Madison and Moselle winning their match. As a freshman, Moselle really played like a veteran in a really big moment for us.”
“Port Clinton is a measuring stick for our team as they consistently have a good team year-in and year-out so we are happy to walk away with the win.”
At Norwalk, the Lady Bears had a great showing as Bryan’s 1st singles, freshman Eden Owens, swept 3 matches to capture a gold medal while Emma Schlade and Shayla Frank captured bronze medals at 1st doubles. Bryan took home third place overall in the tournament with only 1 point separating the teams at 2nd, 3rd, and 4th places.
Bryan returns to the courts on Monday as they travel to Archbold.
