Wednesday afternoon the doubles teams of Molly Hess/Caitlyn DeWitt and Hannah Andrews/Katelan Nagel competed in the District Tournament at Port Clinton High School. The top four doubles teams from the district tournament qualify for the State Tournament, meaning each team had to win two matches to advance. Andrews and Nagel played one of their best matches of the year but fell in the first round to Port Clinton (2 time state qualifiers). Hess and DeWitt matched up against Perkins in the first round and cruised to a straight set victory. Their second matchup was against a Lima Central Catholic team that had two returning state qualifiers. The Lady Bears got off to a slow start by dropping the first set without winning a game. However, Hess and DeWitt showed grit and resilience to win the second set and force a decisive third set. The final set was back and forth but Lima Central Catholic eventually defeated Bryan by a score of 5-7 after over two and a half hours of cumulative matchplay over all three sets combined. Congratulations on a great season to both doubles teams! Individual scores are listed below:
