Kate Thormeier and Xander Fackler competed at Fortress Obetz in the Division II Cross Country State Championships on Saturday afternoon.
Kate finished in 10th place with a time of 18:49. This was good enough for 1st Team All-Ohio! This marked the first time Bryan’s ladies team has had an All-Ohio performer and the first time Thormeier has received All-Ohio recognition in her fourth time at state between cross country and track. “I’m proud of the way Kate competed on the biggest stage. She’ll continue to have confidence after her strong postseason and I’m happy to see her rewarded with a top 10 finish at state! She earned it!” quoted Coach Gleckler
Xander Fackler competed at state for the third time in a row. He found himself near the front of the race early on and was able to hang on for another All-Ohio performance, placing in 24th in a time of 16:17, which was good for Honorable Mention! This marked the fourth year in a row a Bryan boy received All-Ohio recognition. “It is bittersweet to have coached Xander these past four years – proud of what he’s accomplished, but hard to see him graduate. His work ethic has been a staple for our program and he’s modeled what it takes to be great in the sport of cross country. It’s been a joy to see how much he has improved since his freshman year.”
