Cleveland, OH – The National Federation of High Schools awarded its Girls Tennis State Coach of the Year award to Bryan High School tennis coach Mitchell Owens. The award was given at the annual Ohio Tennis Coaches Association banquet in Cleveland on March 1st.
Chris Johnson, President of the OTCA, noted during the presentation that Owens was instrumental in the construction of new tennis courts on the high school campus and had coached many players to the state tournament in addition to coaching two girls teams to the State Final Four. Johnson also recognized that Owens had built a formidable tennis program coaching in a rural environment without the advantages often afforded urban schools with year-round playing opportunities and teaching professionals.
Coach Owens is currently the 9th winningest active coach in the state of Ohio with over 450 wins. He also received a longevity award for coaching 15 years and over 25 seasons combined between the boys and girls tennis teams in Bryan.
