Buchanan and Thormeier Compete at State

Braydon Buchanan and Kate Thormeier competed in the D2 state meet held at Fortress Obetz on Saturday.

Braydon matched his personal best of 16:30 while placing 88th in one of the most competitive fields ever for Division 2. He was the lone senior on this year’s boys’ cross country team.

“I’m very proud of how Braydon performed on Saturday. He gave his best effort and it was fun to watch him closing out his career on a high note while passing a handful of guys in the finishing stretch of Saturday’s race. We will miss not having him on next year’s team. He led by example for his younger teammates. He’s been a joy to coach and I’m thankful he joined our team a few years ago.”

Kate finished her cross country career at state with a 91st place finish, running a 20:12.

“I know this is not what Kate aimed for in her final cross country race. It was an emotional day for both of our seniors as they’ve developed a love for cross country. Kate has left quite a legacy for Bryan girls cross country, ending her career with many of the best performances ever run by a Bryan lady in cross country. I look forward to following along with her success at the next level as she plans to pursue running collegiately and I look forward to coaching her one last season during track.”
