Bryan Volleyball starts off the season with a victory against Springfield

The Bryan varsity volleyball team pulled off an exciting, five-set (25-14, 18-25, 11-25, 27-25, 15-9) victory over Springfield, showing incredible heart and determination. After falling behind in the fourth set 17-7, the Lady Bears battled back with confidence and composure, with both Braya Hepker and Nora Kunsman delivering on timely serves, helping the Lady Bears to secure the fourth set win. With strong leadership, relentless effort, and a never-quit attitude, they turned the momentum their way and closed out the fifth set to secure a hard fought opening day win. 

Stats for today’s game:  Ava Neubig had 5 aces and Jozie Cordy had 3; with multiple other team members adding 1 or 2 aces along the way. At the net, Gezzy Kidston led the Bears with 12 kills and Nora Kunsman had 8 kills. On defense, Gezzy Kidston had 16 digs, Clare Stever had 13 digs, and Alea Shilling had 8 digs. 

Kelsie Thiel, Alea Shilling and Gezzy Kidston continued a strong defensive effort with each contributing two solo blocks. Setter, Jozie Cordy, had 27 assists. 

Bryan JV also won their match against Springfield in two sets, 25-14 and 25-22.  

Bears will be at Holgate on Tuesday and host their first home match against Fairview on Thursday.
