Boys Wrestling Takes Hicksville Invitational Crown

The Bryan wrestling team had themselves a day on Saturday, bringing home the top spot at the Hicksville Aces Invitational. Bryan finished tied with Parkway at 179 points, but the Bears won the tie-breaker to claim the championship. Hicksville and Montpelier followed close behind in a tough field of 12 teams.

Bryan picked up points all over the lineup. Terner Vitek got the crowd fired up with a lightning-quick pin in just 43 seconds at 132 pounds, and at 138, John Haury brought home a title of his own with a second-period pin.

More Bears stepped up with clutch matches: Nate Root battled through the bracket at 144, Oscar Telles stuck his opponent in the fifth-place match at 150, and Jason Lirot earned a big third-place pin at 165. Mason McDougle added another pin at 175, and Logan Carder followed that up with a fast fall at 190 to pile on more team points.

It was a great team effort from start to finish, and the Golden Bears walked out of Hicksville with a trophy and a whole lot of momentum heading into the rest of the season.
