On Thursday September 24th, the Bryan 8th grade football team defeated the Evergreen Vikings 43-28 in a high scoring affair. Explosive plays and long touchdowns by both teams created back and forth action until the Bryan defense got some stops in the 2nd half. Bryan led 22-16 at half until Evergreen scored on their first play from scrimmage to tie the game. However, the Golden Bears were able to make enough plays on both sides of the ball to pull away in the 2nd half. Quarterback Kayson Buchanan was the workhorse for the Bryan Golden Bears as he had 5 rushing touchdowns and and threw a touchdown pass to Maven Staten. The pair connected on a 2-point conversion pass as well. Buchanan was the team’s leading rusher and added 2 additional 2-point conversion runs to round out the offensive scoring for Bryan. Wes Connin, Noah VonDeylen and Maven Staten each had a reception. Lohgan Decker went 1 for 1 on PAT kicks. Leading the way for the Bryan defense was Kayson Buchanan and Maven Staten each forcing a fumble while Lohgan Decker and Buchanan recovered the fumbles. Wes Connin also added an interception. The Golden Bears were led in tackles by Kayson Buchanan, Wes Connin, and Amari Johnson. The Bryan 8th grade football team is now 2-2 on the season. The team is back in action next Thursday when they host Swanton at 7:00 p.m.
