The Girls Tennis Sectionals were held at Ottawa Hills on Thursday and Saturday. Seven Bryan girls competed and three Lady Bears advanced to Districts by the end of the tournament.
The singles bracket represented 11 different schools with 28 total participants, and Bryan’s Eden Owens knocked-off several opponents on her way to the finals including two from Ottawa Hills and one from Wauseon. In the finals, Owens dropped a tough three-set match to Valentine Buchkova – last year’s district champion and state qualifier from Maumee Valley Country Day. Owens would finish as Sectional Runner-Up and garner the #2 seed heading into Districts next week at Pt. Clinton.
In the doubles bracket, the Bryan duo of Mya Parker and Shayla Frank would outperform their initial seeding. The Lady Bears came into the tournament seeded #3 but took out the #2 seed in the semi-finals to advance to the doubles finals. Parker and Frank fell to the 1-seed from Ottawa Hills in the finals to finish as Sectional Runner-Up. They will be the doubles #2 seed heading into District competition. It was the first time Bryan had participants in both the singles and doubles finals in the same year.
