The varsity wrestling team traveled to Convoy Thursday night to take on the Crestview Knights. The dual meet came down to the final match of the night, with Harry Ross earning a pin to seal the win for the Bears.
The match started out with a double forfeit at 106. Alex Lane and Raiden Rezabek received forfeits to make the team score 12-0. At 126 Maddox Kennedy lost by fall. Gaige Phillips represented the Bears at 132 and gave it his all, but fell short 10-9 and finished the match with his opponent on his back. This brought the team score to 12-9. Donnell Bush got the bears back on track at 138 with a pin, 18-9 was now the team score. Zack Russel received a forfeit at 144 pushing the bears ahead 24-9. Collin Rachel then took the mat at 150, normally wrestling at 144. He gave it his all but just could not muster enough and fell 10-2. The team score now stood at 24-13. Crestview received a forfeit at 157 and then won by fall at 165, pitting the knights ahead 25-24. But the bears would not go down without a fight. Dameon Wolfe took the mat at 175 and waisted no time pinning his opponent. The Bears went back ahead 30-25. The final match of the night was at 190. Harry Ross, who returned to wrestling after 2 years off was given the tough card of winning the match for the Bears. This was because Bryan would receive a forfeit at 215 and Crestview got the same at 285. This meant the team score would be 36-31, Bears. The 190 match would determine the match. Harry battled hard throughout and came out with a pin to seal the match.
