The Bryan Golden Bears edged Ayersville 1-0 behind a dominant performance from pitcher Thea Staten.
Staten struck out 17 batters while allowing just one hit and no runs over seven innings. She also walked one in the complete-game shutout.
The game remained scoreless until the top of the sixth inning when Averyann Fisher grounded out to bring home the game’s only run.
Fisher finished with Bryan’s lone RBI, while Staten helped lead the offense with two hits in three at-bats and Vollmer added one hit. The Golden Bears also played a clean game defensively without committing an error.
Bryan will return home Thursday to face Hicksville.
