Bryan scored three rushing touchdowns and Nate Miller added three passing scores as the Golden Bears defeated the Delta Panthers 44-14 Friday night.
The Bears opened up the scoring early in the first quarter, after a four play 35 yard drive, as Miller ran 21 yards up the middle for a touchdown to make it 7-0 with 9:07 remaining in the quarter.
After a Delta punt, Bryan drove all the way to the Panthers 1-yard line where a Panther defender stripped the ball from Dom James. On the very next play, Delta quarterback Dawson Swicegood was tackled in the end zone for a safety.
With the lead at 9-0, Bryan took the ensuing free kick and marched it 42 yards in 12 plays, capped off by a Dom James touchdown from 1-yard out. Bryan led Delta 16-0 with 8:54 remaining in the half.
On the next drive, Logan Clemens intercepted a Swicegood pass and took it to the Delta 47-yard line. Four plays later, Miller hooked up with Titus Rohrer for his first passing touchdown, a 35-yard strike down the left side of the field. After Chandler Jackson’s PAT, the Bears led 23-0 with 4:21 remaining in the half.
On the next drive, Swicegood again threw a pick, this time to Conner Arthur to the Delta 32. Two plays later, Miller hooked up with Rohrer again for a 32-yard touchdown as time expired in the first half. The halftime score was 30-0.
The second half started with a running clock, and Bryan received the opening kickoff. Noah Bany carried the ball three times, and then on the fourth play of the drive, Miller found Brycen Andrews on a 4-yard screen. Andrews ran 25 more yards for another Bryan score. That made it 37-0 with 9:39 remaining in the 3rd quarter.
Delta would then put together its best drive of the game, a 10 play, 77 yard drive that finished with a 5-yard JD Osborn touchdown. After the PAT, the score was 37-7 in favor of Bryan.
Bryan would score one more time, as Evan Brown came in at quarterback for the Bears. Brown picked up his first varsity touchdown as he ran 56 yards for the score to make it 44-7.
Delta would answer with a Swicegood touchdown pass to Osborn with 2:39 remaining. The final score was 44-14.
With the win, the Golden Bears move to 6-1 on the season and 4-0 in the NWOAL. They remain tied with Patrick Henry and Liberty Center at the top of the standings. Delta is now 2-5 and winless in the conference.
Bryan will host Patrick Henry next week at Golden Bear Stadium for the 2018 Homecoming game.
